The legendary remoteness of the dry, brutal, sand-strewn Sahara Desert left the region mostly uncharted and a blank space on maps for centuries. In oases towns such as Dakhla, Farafra, and Bharia the people whispered tales of lost oases, lost cities, and lost treasure.

Eventually, these tales spread to the four corners of the Earth luring adventurers and fortune hunters alike into the shifting sands of the Sahara; most would never be heard from again.
